Social Media Conference 2008

Thanks to everyone who made the whole thing happen. This page is where I will be embedding the video from the day once we get it up and online. Damian O Broin’s Presentation is the first bit of conference we can put into the page.

The second Irish Blogging and Social-Media Conference takes place on Saturday 4th of October between 10am and 6pm in EU House on Dawson Street. Zack Exely will be over from the US to join speakers from Ireland and Europe on the way that social media and blogging can affect politics and society with thanks to our sponsors at EU House for their help in facilitating this. The conference will explore how technology allows us to communicate, organise and activate citizens today. There will be a series of workshops for bloggers and media professionals on online law and what blogs and journalism can learn from each other. We want to explore the technological benefits awaiting those in this country who want to organise for social action. From blogging to twitter, Facebook to email, there are a raft of means to achieve political goals now and this conference looks at the worldwide experiences at making this happen. Guests so far include Zack Exley, EU Commissioner Margot Wallstrom, Damien Mulley, Damian O’Broin, Harry McGee, Simon McGarr and many others. Attendance is expected to be free and inclusive of coffee, lunch and drinks. Signup is needed to ensure you get a seat on the day - below is a form that you need to fill if you are attending so we have an idea of how many places we need to reserve. If the event is full and you have not reserved your place, you may be refused admission - you have been warned!

Irish Parties looking at learning online and database lessons from Obama could do worse than bear this post in mind. Almost as soon as the election is over, improvements and evolution are making some parts redundant and others essential. Get your campaign an i-phone for everyone? Might be better than printing flyers, it goes to show how parties, if they take it seriously, need to keep ahead of the wave - not just follow.
