Since NATO troops rolled into Kosovo ten years ago the political its political status has been ambiguous. Serbia, to which it belongs, has little or no say over the day to day running of the “province” as the institutions of state have been built by the international community. However now is the point where this convenient blurring has to end and a choice has to be made on whether it will gain Independence?
Kristin Holtgen, European Program Analyst with the International Crisis Group explains what the future will be?
GM Crops, Once you taste them is there any going back?GM crops are food stuffs that have had there genetic make up altered to increase yields, resistance to the elements and boost their immune system. However GM crops also have a number of problems associated with them. These include environmental safety, labelling, consumer choice, intellectual property rights, ethics and food security.
Do the benefits outweigh these concerns. Well in Ireland we have taken the view that the impact of GM food is more negative the then positivea and outlawed its importing. The other questions to ask is if this is just another means of intensive farming that has become dependent on technology.
Discussing this is Green Party Councilor Carolan Byan and Fiachra O’Brolchain a research student from Queens who is writing extensively on the subject.Do the benefits outweigh these concerns.
