A couple of semi-formed thoughts of issues that perhaps deserved a little more attention in all the relentless punditry.
Head over to our T-Shirt shop for the latest designs including Conor Lenihan's memorable performance on Vincent Browne.
A couple of semi-formed thoughts of issues that perhaps deserved a little more attention in all the relentless punditry.
This is the fifth in a series of posts looking at who would or would not keep their seats if an election was called now. With not much local polling to go on this is entirely my opinion and probably wrong. If you have any ideas on it please drop a comment. Waterford
The Oireachtas has today launched a detailed profile based on the 2006 Census of all the constituencies in the country. The information is quite interesting and comprehensive and details all 42 constituencies in the country.
Update: Head office must have been worried for the press released the result this evening. It is a blow for any who may have wished to see a return of the Spring dynasty to this particular fold as Senator Alan Kelly took the nomination for Labour candidate for MEP in the South. It was widely [...]
The report of the 2007 Consituency Commission is out, some would say a little bit too late but how and ever. Kerry is to remain split, with Kerry South a 3 seater while Kerry North joins to West Limerick in also remaining a 3 seater. Dublin Euro is a 3 seater, Dun Laoghaire is a [...]
I believe one motion on Shannon has been defeated by 1 vote. 68 to 67. Watch or listen live.
Kerry North fully declared. Deenihan (1) Ferris and McEllestrim elected too. Kerry South: Healy Rae takes last seat so FF-FG-Ind but recount begins at 21:50
Update: Foley said to be polling well, may challenge McEllistrim for final seat. Depending on Labour transfers Early doors in Kerry North, Tralee and some North Kerry boxes open with Fine Gael’s Jimmy Deenihan ‘storming ahead’ on first preferences. It seems likely that he will top the poll. Ferris and McEllistrim polling well likely to [...]
From Breakingnews.ie, Martin Ferris’ blood sample returned below the legal limit. On less political circus and it is likely to provide a boost from rural parts of the constituency.
Further to P O Neill’s original post. From The Evening Echo via breakingnews.ie; “In an interview on local radio, Deputy Ferris admitted that he had drank two pints and a glass of red wine in the course of Saturday night. He said he is awaiting results of analysis on a urine sample that he gave [...]
The key sentences, following his arrest on suspicion of drunk-driving sound tough but it’s not clear what they actually mean in his case.
The Examiner has an interesting story this morning suggesting that one of Det. Gerry McCabe’s killers (Michael O’Neill) is to be freed on May 17 for good behaviour, serving eight of eleven years. The Examiner suggest this may be a headache for the government with an election possible on the 18th May. To be fair [...]
The Sindo carry the story that Sinn Fein TD Martin Ferris has been accused of calling a group of travellers “dirty smelly pavees”. The alleged incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Tralee, after Mr Ferris went to the halting site along with another Sinn Fein official. It is understood they asked for the return [...]
Amidst the plethora of “2006-in-review” articles populating today’s papers, there is one very interesting piece in the Tribune. The way our electoral system works makes polls slightly unhelpful—ignoring particularity within constituencies and also the nature of transfers—but the Tribune have taken a look across the most contested constituencies to attempt to predict the likely election [...]
Word has reached me—not entirely confident about the source—that RTE have bought the rights to show Loose Change, the show about 9/11 being a government conspiracy, etc., etc. It will be interesting to see if the program discusses the reality behind some of the claims. Anyway, it might give Morgan Stack who we interviewed here [...]
There’s been an interesting trend in the recent TG4 polls conducted by TNS/MRBI compared to national figures being delivered by RedC and TNS/MRBI in the Sunday Business Post and The Irish Times respectively. Added to this can be the reporting in The Kerryman of two polls seen there. There appears to be an increasing trend [...]
