For many, it had seemed plausible that Fianna Fail would climb Lazarus-like back to the low-20s in vote share. Thus far, the polls have mired the party on 15% under new leader Micheal Martin and if that is where they stay, a local poll for the Irish Times in Cork North Central suggests the party [...]

Did you know that when it comes to the financial sector, Ireland has “stronger oversight and better regulation”? That’s the sales pitch from Billy Kelleher TD who has the Trade and Commerce portfolio within the department of enterprise and employment. It’s a quote from a Financial Times story which says that Ireland is marketing itself [...]

This is the Sixth in a series of posts looking at who would or would not keep their seats if an election was called now. With not much local polling to go on this is entirely my opinion and probably wrong. If you have any ideas on it please drop a comment. Cork East

The Oireachtas has today launched a detailed profile based on the 2006 Census of all the constituencies in the country. The information is quite interesting and comprehensive and details all 42 constituencies in the country.

It seems the horses are getting jumpy in the Fianna Fail stable. On Morning Ireland, Noel O’Flynn suggested that it might be an opportune moment for Bertie to consider making a statement on the events of last week. Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland today, Mr O’Flynn said: “In order to clarify a number of issues [...]

At the least it seems Sinn Fein are hoping to pick up 6 additional seats in this election. Mary Lou McDonald reckons they can pick up seats in Donegal (not sure if one or both), Sligo-North Leitrim, Cork North Central, Waterford and Wexford. She also suggests seats in Dublin (well she would) though not specifying [...]

Great stuff, another local poll. Cork North Central is under the microscope for the Echo. It is a four-seater this year (down from five). Was a 3-1-1 but one incumbent FF is retiring so the incumbency is 2-1-1 for the four seater. The poll predicts that Fianna Fail are likely to have a pretty major [...]

Starting on RTE 1 now (10:20). Updates following. Its over now, watch it when it goes live here. Health: Interesting response to Caoimhghin O Caolain on health. Two out of fifty in the audience would like to see SF in government but in a head to head on health with Mary Harney the majority of [...]

Word has reached me—not entirely confident about the source—that RTE have bought the rights to show Loose Change, the show about 9/11 being a government conspiracy, etc., etc. It will be interesting to see if the program discusses the reality behind some of the claims. Anyway, it might give Morgan Stack who we interviewed here [...]
