A day after George Lee’s departure, we can see a situation that would have warranted another George politician to say “Heckuva job”. Lee’s departure obscured the implosion of the year-long government talking point that NAMA would increase bank lending: the IMF had told them, quite sensibly, that it wouldn’t. According to Enda’s statement yesterday, Lee [...]

So Boy George has bit the bullet. Fallen on his own sword, hoist by his own petard, crashed and burned, came a cropper.
At 1pm today former RTE economist and more recently celebrity by-election candidate, George Lee, announced he is resiging his Dáil seat and his membership of the Fine Gael party.
It wasn’t happening fast enough [...]

At 10.07am Newstalk were calling it for George Lee in Dublin South, David McCullough on RTÉ was saying it would be very difficult to beat his former colleague at about 9.45 on RTÉ radio. At present it looks like the Boy George will take the seat on the first count, he’s at 52% with [...]

This is the Seventh in a series of posts looking at who would or would not keep their seats if an election was called now. With not much local polling to go on this is entirely my opinion and probably wrong. If you have any ideas on it please drop a comment.

Have a listen to Pat Kenny from this morning and Vincent Browne (2, 3) from last night. He might need to tone down what comes across as a narky, smug candidate. It may be just me who picked it up though.

One of Ireland’s most famous Segway users, George Lee – also sometime RTE Economist- is once again rumoured to be running for Fine Gael in Dublin South. The Labour Party has announced that Senator Ivana Bacik will be seeking its nomination for the Dublin Central by-election.
This close to the close of nominations, it’s highly unlikely any other candidate will come forward (or be able to beat Bacik in a nomination contest).
Senator Pascal Donohoe of Fine Gael had been seen as the likely [...]

Celebrity economists George Lee and Jim Power are both linked to running for Fine Gael in the Dublin South by-election to fill the seat vacated by the late Seamus Brennan. Jim Power instantly dismissed it, while George Lee isn’t even commenting. RTE dismissed it out of hand for him.
Other notables that are mentioned in the [...]

Psychologists today warned of the dire consequences if the near-toxic levels of schadenfreude caused by the PD’s demise continue.
For many socialists, liberals, libertarians and plain old democrats, the PD meltdown was a hidden diamond in the race to the centre-right that was election 07.
The removal from office of so many hubristic, egotistical demagogues in one [...]

As Mick notes in the comments here, we have three siblings to join the brother-in-law/sister-in-law, husband/wife combinations elected to Dáil Eireann. Tom Kitt, Michael Kitt and Aine Brady (nee Kitt) are all elected to the 30th Dáil.
