At this pace of news dumps, we’re going to need a bigger Dumpster. Today it’s the report into why Brian Lenihan misled Chris Andrews in response to his parliamentary question about the payment of bonuses at Bank of Ireland (the same question triggered the AIB bonus row). First, a digression. Let’s suppose you were considering [...]

In a sequence that will revive memories of Dick Roche’s desk-clearing approval of the M3 motorway near Tara in 2007, acting Minister for Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources Pat Carey has approved the Corrib gas pipeline project. As with Tara, the next minister might view this either as a hot potato glad to be off his to-do list or as a [...]

This is the Seventh in a series of posts looking at who would or would not keep their seats if an election was called now. With not much local polling to go on this is entirely my opinion and probably wrong. If you have any ideas on it please drop a comment. Dun Laoghaire

The Oireachtas has today launched a detailed profile based on the 2006 Census of all the constituencies in the country. The information is quite interesting and comprehensive and details all 42 constituencies in the country.

Labour’s Cllr Dermot Lacey notes over on his blog that Dublin City Council have started their voter registration drive for the new electoral register. Nice posters, which include messages in English, Irish, Chinese and what is presumably Polish, are up in Smithfield and other areas with high numbers of people who don’t have English as [...]

Bord Pleanala has laid a bed of nails for Minister Gormley. They have granted permission for the Poolbeg incinerator to go ahead with a capacity of 600,000. The inspector report recommended that the incinerator should only have a capacity of 500,00 tonnes at the most but DCC want the 600,000 to make up the shortfall [...]

I see today that the Berkeley Court and Jury’s Ballsbridge have closed for renovations. When I mean renovations, I mean they are going to be completely knocked down and a large complex of apartments are going to be built there. The original plans were pretty massive and were vetoed by the council. I was never [...]

Psychologists today warned of the dire consequences if the near-toxic levels of schadenfreude caused by the PD’s demise continue. For many socialists, liberals, libertarians and plain old democrats, the PD meltdown was a hidden diamond in the race to the centre-right that was election 07. The removal from office of so many hubristic, egotistical demagogues [...]

Just into us, it seems Ruairi might be safe. John Gormley reckons: “Over the last number of weeks the experts have predicted the outcome of Dublin south east. They usually conclude that both I and Michael McDowell are ‘safe’. This is not the case, and these expert predictions have in fact influenced voter behaviour to [...]

A word before we begin to publish these interviews. It is a matter for parties and candidates who gets put up here. We contacted all parties, asked for two people. Sometimes we went to candidates with a web presence and doubly asked. The result is likely to be a mixed picture on parties (likely reflecting [...]

Welcome to the fourth edition for Green Party Global Warming. This is Hot or Not but for Green Party candidates. It’s studmuffin day today. Who will it be? Eamon Ryan, Green Candidate for Dublin South. John Gormley, Green Candidate in Dublin South East. Will it be well-dressed, well-spoken, well-tanned Cassanova Ryan or will it be [...]
