Frank Fahey and the Galway Outer Bypass online

Galway West Fianna Fail TD and Minister of State Frank Fahey has launched a website allowing visitors to leave messages of support for the Galway Outer Bypass. However the site seems to have attracted more than a few detractors; comments so far include: “This is another bad example of the ‘predict and provide’ approach to [...]

Radio na Gaeltachta Poll Suggests Green TD for Galway West

Another one slipping below today’s radar is the Radio na Gaeltachta Poll on Galway West. See below the fold for results and bottom of post for link to .xls of results.

We get the politicians we deserve

Writing in the Irish Daily Mail today, Richard Waghorne quotes the judge who sentenced Galway County Councillor Michael “The Stroke” Fahy to prison for 12 months on fraud charges. “You have been declared a fraud”, the judge told the disgraced councillor. Waghorne went on to make a far more important point:

Some times you just want to take the piss but can’t

From Fianna Fail Lough Corrib is under threat from dishwasher tablets Crowe  I know you are thinking of marauding Finish Tablets out to get Lough Corrib. With Fairy Tablets acting like sharks in the water. Thing is he does have a point The Galway city-based councillor is spear heading a campaign to get phosphates removed [...]

McCormack Staying Put in Galway West

From Breaking News: Fine Gael’s Padraig McCormack has decided to defend his Galway West seat next year (someone might correct me, but is that now four Fine Gael candidates? Surely one will have to drop out). No doubt good news for Fine Gael with McCormack having a good record of vote getting. It’s still a [...]

Going to the bench

A blow for Enda as the front-runner to retain Padraic McCormack’s long-held seat in Galway West has withdrawn. The Irish Times (sub. req’d) reports that Councillor Brian Walsh, seen as having the best chance of winning the seat, has cited “personal reasons” for doing so. Enda’s statement includes greetings to Walsh’s “new wife Fiona”—one wonders [...]

National Polls v. Constituency Polls

There’s been an interesting trend in the recent TG4 polls conducted by TNS/MRBI compared to national figures being delivered by RedC and TNS/MRBI in the Sunday Business Post and The Irish Times respectively. Added to this can be the reporting in The Kerryman of two polls seen there. There appears to be an increasing trend [...]

Cargate

In an interview with NUI Galway’s student newspaper SIN, Niall Ó Brolcháin is asked the question I wrote about previously about his car: You were given a new hybrid car. Would it not have been more environmentally sound to keep your old car as 40 per cent of the pollution generated by a car in [...]

“Streaking is not a laughing matter,” says Crowe. Oh yes it is!

The first thing I did when I saw this headline in the Fianna Fail press releases—Streaking is not a laughing matter: Crowe—was laugh.

Watergate Copycat

From the Indo Breaking News: Gardai in Galway are investigating a break-in at the constituency office of Progressive Democrats TD Noel Grealish. The premises, which is attached to Mr Grealish’s business in Briarhill Business Park, was ransacked during the incident overnight. The PD politician, who discovered the break-in when he arrived at the office this [...]

Galway West Poll has PD’s losing a seat to the greens

Despite a recent bump in the polls, it looks like the PDs may lose one of their safer seats in Galway West. From the Galway Advertiser: Most fascinating though are the findings regarding Mayor Ó Brolcháin and Dep Grealish. The poll shows the Mayor doing very well and Dep Grealish not doing well enough. This [...]

Sound bites more important then the enviroment for the Greens.

Niall O’Brolcháin Green candidate in Galway West is trading in the Mayoral jag for a more environmentally friendly car. Yet what he is doing is not enviromentally friendly at all.

Government to catch the blue flu?

In what will likely be an oft-repeated quote, the newly elected president of the Garda Representative Association, John Egan has said that the government has a year (or implicitly, until the election) to deliver extra resources to the Garda and abandon the proposal for a reserve force, or ‘if they do not, we will be [...]
