The RPA released a consulation document today on the feasibility of a new Luas line ‘E’ from Dundrum to Christchurch, covering Terenure and Harold’s Cross. The proposal for line E was not included in Transport 21 but the RPA are hoping that the study will be included in a later revision of the project. It [...]

Word from the count centre is that Catherine Byrne (FG) is going to be elected without reaching quota on the final count, which means that Aongus O’Snodaigh (SF) will shade it ahead of Eric Byrne (Lab), with just 67 votes between them.
Right now papers are being re-checked to make sure that none of Eric’s votes [...]

Tonights Herald splashes the front page with the story Eric put up on the blog a few days ago. It was mentioned in a roundup. It appears a building firm sent him an unsolicited donation for E500. He sent it back and before I left I got a comment from him. (Didn’t have time to [...]

I subscribe to The Phoenix magazine and received their ‘election special’ in the post this morning which, as you guessed, has a slightly heavier political slant than usual.
Their actual ‘election special’ section, however, was little more than an extended edition of the very hit-and-miss “satire” pages which grace every issue.
Regular readers of this section will [...]

Press release titles of the day? For the chuckle factor anyway. Kenny’s appeal goes down the YouTubes in video views stakes - Ambrose. Councillor Siobhan Ambrose, Fianna Fáil candidate in Tipperary South thinks that because more people have seen her youtube video than a version of Enda Kenny’s party conference speech [...]

This morning the Progressive Democrats added to their cache of high-profile candidates with the announcement that Frank McNamara is to contest the election for them in Dublin South Central. This means the party is running two candidates in the five seater, with local activist Ben Doyle on the ticket also. There is likely to [...]

Amidst the plethora of “2006-in-review” articles populating today’s papers, there is one very interesting piece in the Tribune. The way our electoral system works makes polls slightly unhelpful—ignoring particularity within constituencies and also the nature of transfers—but the Tribune have taken a look across the most contested constituencies to attempt to predict the likely election [...]

News this evening that the long Mitchell presence in the Dail will end next year with Gay’s decision to pursue his MEP career rather than run again as a TD. FG sound optimistic that they can hold the seat with Catherine Byrne, but that still leaves Labour with a battle to get their second [...]

The second and final part of the interview Eric Byrne did with Irish Election. Part 1 is here. The last three questions have been asked in the comments elsewhere.
IE.com: Slightly connected, business and the private sector make a great deal of noise about tax levels, so much so that Pat Rabbitte suggested that Labour would [...]
