Political figures (and, to be fair, I hardly think Andrew Murphy counts as exactly a major one) would be increasingly afraid to have any sort of sense of humour if even a harmless joke like this is taken to mean some sort of slur against journalists. It's a joke - not a hilarious one, but not a harmful one either - either laugh or don't laugh, but don't pretend that it's of any relevance or importance.
