Yeah, this really does seem like making something out of nothing. It’s humour. Gentle ribbing. Journalists might even find it funny. I’m a journalist and I do.
It’s also a bit shit in terms of the kind of political culture this sort of rubbishy blog post creates. Political figures (and, to be fair, I hardly think Andrew Murphy counts as exactly a major one) would be increasingly afraid to have any sort of sense of humour if even a harmless joke like this is taken to mean some sort of slur against journalists.
It’s a joke – not a hilarious one, but not a harmful one either – either laugh or don’t laugh, but don’t pretend that it’s of any relevance or importance.
I agree with the comments above. It’s a one-time comment made on the most transient of all internet media. Get over yourself!
