Brian Lenihan is looking for expressions of interest to join the board of NAMA – might I suggest our own Gavin put his name forward. A good blogging nominee who appears to understand the entity a tad more than Frank Fahey. The full ad is below the fold but the blurb from the Dept of Finance is interesting with the markets in mind:
This is being done in anticipation of the enactment of the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) Bill 2009(my emphasis). Expressions of interest are being sought to ensure the NAMA Board has the necessary specialist expertise to discharge its functions.
Speaking today the Minister said:
‘The early establishment of NAMA is of critical importance. That is why we have sought expressions of interest for appointment to the NAMA Board at this time and in advance of the anticipated enactment of the NAMA Bill.
The role of the NAMA Board will be critical in ensuring that NAMA discharges its functions under the legislation in an efficient and effective manner. This in turn will mean that NAMA meets its policy objective of restoring stability to the Irish financial system and improving credit availability. In that context, I will be seeking to appoint candidates of the highest calibre to the Board of NAMA.’
It is interesting that the emphasis is place on the fact that this is in anticipation of NAMA being in place before end 2009. Yet despite the effort to make a sustained show of strength for they agency, bank shares are down again. Clearly Lenihan’s ability to move the market is waning – or perhaps another explanation exists, we won’t know unless we are psychic.
