Joan Burton yesterday in the Dail was talking about murder and the DPP. She said too things that caught my eye. First
The efforts made by the DPP to increase the level of communication from his office particularly in the distressing circumstances of the avalanche of murders that regularly occur has been extremely important to the families of the victims.
And
One hardly ever wakes up these days without RTE reporting from some part of the country about somebody being murdered, killed or the subject of manslaughter.
Now in 2008 there was 50 murders in Ireland and 5 manslaughters. Or one event every 6.4 days. So you are more likely to wake up and not hear someone has been murdered in Ireland. In addition. Under 1 murder a week is not an avalance
By the way just incase you are wondering. Labour’s favourite D4 on Ice, Sweden had 209 murders in 2009. 3.8 times the amount in Ireland. Sweden has about twice the population. Avalanche indeed. Any one wondering why Ireland has the greatest fear of crime in Europe?
