Dublin tallies. Mitchell 100k, DeRossa 87k, Ryan 66,205, Higgins 53,036, Mary Lou 50,980, McKenna 22,380, de Burca 21,991
Seat totals at 9:00 – FF (180), FG (293), Lab (123), GP (3), SF (48) and OTH (118)
Recount called by De Burca – we now are behind. Higgins seat to lose on these numbers. No idea why she would call a recount before being eliminated before McKenna. Nothing at all to do with the fact that De Burca going before McKenna pushes the Green in government question front and centre. If the party’s voters went with the dissent versus the official line the party is split and the pressure over the next week after the losses of councillors and loss to McKenna would push Ryan and Gormley to the precipice. They do not dwell well on said precipice.

How can De Rossa be on 87000 when he was around 94000 earlier? Do you mean 97000?
Sorry FT – it seems that the TV3 figure of 97k was reduced by RTE toward 85k so he is now on 87k post Byrne / simons / Sweeny elimination.
Why would she call a recount, what has she got to gain? Is it expenses?
Yes it is Expenses – she would fail to make the mark with such a high turnout. We are all calling the seat for Higgins now although if the Greens lose to MCKenna it ramps up pressure on them also.
need 25% of quote for expenses quote is over 100k
She’s just being a baby about losing to McKenna in the 1st pref vote.
She would need a couple of thousand more to get expenses though wouldn’t she? Sounds like pride to coming in behind McKenna
? I think these figures look good for Higgins.

“Seat will be Higgins Win”
Eamon Ryan just said on Newstalk that the expenses number involved is in the order of 20 thousand or more. If there’s only a hundred or two votes between €20k and nothing, we’d all want a recount as well.
there were 200-300 votes which would enable Deirdre to get €38k back in expenses. Anyone who wouldn’t try get that is a fool.
