Irishelection.com At The Count
Read more about: Blogging, Ireland, Irish Politics
From Thursday the national airwaves go quiet to give voters some time to contemplate their decision ahead of voting on June 5th. That vote will be counted over Saturday and Sunday and Suzy, Alexia, myself and all the team at irishelection.com are going to be covering all aspects up to the minute.
We have plenty in store for the moratorium period – we couldn’t starve you of last minute chances to make up your mind. There will be a liveblog set up for the Local and Euro elections which we will post the link to later this week. The hashtag for the liveblog on twitter will be #le09.
Twitter:
Make sure you are getting the most from the day by hashtagging all your election tweets with #le09. Follow the irishelection account, for breaking news and blog updates. The liveblog will pick up the hashtag and we get to keep up with all the latest – so don’t forget the tag!
The Count:
At the moment we are getting in touch with people attending the different count centres in the hope that, like 2007, our readers can provide up to the minute information, gossip, rumours and pictures to bring to the coverage. This is where we ask for help.
If you are going to a count, canvass, party or election event in the coming days please get in touch with us. You will be able to text, twitter, email, call in your information and we can keep everyone up to date with the happenings.
Email us on irishelection (at) gmail.com and we will work out a way for every single person to contribute in the most convenient way for them.
In 2007 we were first with all the major news, including a pic of McDowell resigning before people even knew he had. This time around, a huge election, we get to have more fun than last time. We will be posting over the next day or two on the main technology for our coverage. Do get in touch if you can give us any of your time.
The Coverage:
There will be audio, video, picture and lots of excellent analysis between the live blog, irishelection.com, twitter and the bloggers party. If you are using flickr or pix.ie make sure to use the LE09 tag for your photos.
We are setting up a blogger HQ for all the irishelection.com team close to the RDS count centre and it will be base camp for the bloggers covering the day.
The good people at D4 Hotels have made sure that the blogger HQ will be our nerve centre and your first call for info on the day.
More details on all of the main elements of coverage to come over the next few days, not to mention some moratorium busting.
If you can help please do. Thanks a million!
Head over to our T
Will be either at the RDS or in the Labour Party nerve centre all day Saturday (probably the RDS running the SEIC & Pembroke/Rathmines tallies), and will be in Punchestown for the Ireland East count all day Sunday.
Will keep you informed on both.
Will most likely be at a count somewhere. Will let you know where when I know better.
Will be at Cork City Council and Ireland South counts. May also have informers at County Council Counts
working on a few people!
Wil most likely be in Paris where I am moving to. So wouldn’t be at any counts unless I am can find a French count centre
Fergal, Stephem and Keith – thanks a million for that, all help will be gratefully received!
Simon, enjoy the move and enjoy Paris in the summer (not at all jealous)
I’ll be in the RDS working the Dublin Central by-election tallies so I can keep you updated on that & whatever other tallies are going on nearby. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the SWIC and Crumlin/Kimmage results also
I had plans to be in the RDS but real life gets in the way of the best of plans. So I will be mainly trying to corral the herd over on p.ie, probably less successfully than I would wish for. I will be tweeting on occasion cos for some reason my comments via liveblog don’t tend to get through moderation (I can only wonder why!).
I’m also going to have a chat with some heads and see if we can’t get the full tallies up somewhere for the 04 locals, there were electronic (i.e. Excel tabulated with info from all the parties) tallies around 12.00 which while for only 50/60% of boxes did give pretty good indications of where things were trending. Someone with wifi in the RDS could easily post them or send them on someone trustworthy to be posted.
