Fine Gael Party Leader, Enda Kenny TD, will today (Wednesday) meet George Lee, as well as sitting Dublin South TDs Olivia Mitchell and Alan Shatter for a media doorstep at 5:15pm at the Kildare St. Gate of Leinster House.
After managing to get a full 24 hours out of his candidacy for Fine Gael – right up to Pat Kenny’s show today, George Lee will finally meet the leader of his party (for the first time? George insists he hasn’t met Kenny in the toing and froing up to his announcement). Hopefully we get some lovely pictures of gritted teeth.
Head over to our T
Yea right. George Lee admitted on Liveline that he wasn’t joining FG to be a backbencher. He is hardly going to be spokesperson on the Gaelteacht so has clearly been promised the Finance position. The only person who can do that is Enda Kenny.
This is a shameful shafting of Richard Bruton who has given years of loyal support to Kenny. Remember had Richard pushed Kenny 3 years ago when Kenny had the lowest rating of any leader in the history of the state it is highly likely that Richard would be Taoiseach now as he would not have thrown away the election in 90 minutes of absolute madness during the debate with Bertie.
Kenny has surrounded himself with young inexperienced front benchers so as to eliminate any serious threat. The fastest way to become a front bench spokesperson was to be a 20 something first time TD. The only exception to this was Richard and he emerged as the biggest threat to Kenny. Now it would seem Kenny has found a way to exterminate the last serious alternative to his dictatorship of the party.
I’ve heard tell of planned new ministries in a FG government, something like Finance and a second senior post in Economic Planning / Redevelopment. Reasons cited include the complete arse made of the Economy for the last ten years.
