The Web Roundup is Here, Posters, Pamphlets and Lovely Girls

Can you feel it in the air? No, not the palpable excitement as election day draws near, its the tension of those who move through the night to bring you a feast of election posters on Wednesday. Like a Christmas morning (but a bit less like a good Christmas morning) we woke up to a raft of benign smiling candidates on Wednesday morning. Allan Cavanagh spotted shenanigans, though, as some Green posters were being put up early.

Not the only ones to do it mind, though our own Brian Greene got injured in the line of duty. Fortunately Noel Rock was fine, despite braving the M1 and Paschal Donohoe too got very lucky after a car hit him on the canvass. As Suzy says, take it safe out there.

Some of our newly-Irish readers might get some benefit from the integrating Ireland ivote09 videos explaining what the hell is going on with all the crazy people wanting to shake their hand and erect cardboard on lampposts. In their own language. Here is the Arabic one.

In the last web roundup Suzy brought you news, via Stephen Spillane, of the conversation between the Green Party, Deirdre de Burca and twitter (in a nutshell; “I, like Barack, am very busy”). We had a follow up (two actually) directing us to Deirdre de Burca’s twitter policy. How does a man decline such an invite? Pop over and have a look for yourself at the policy, I think it would take less time to fling in a few @ responses since they only cost 140 characters but whatever suits (why is the font on that post different from the others?).

On the campaign trail it is a litany of posters wherever you look. Garret 2.0bridy was out with the team last night putting up posters and as election day nears, he talks about the anger he is feeling on the doorsteps. Anger won’t get us anywhere though, vote for the future not the past, which strikes me as our candidate trying to be both. Keeping to the poster meme, we did get a sneak peak of some.

After the prompt to action in the last web roundup Eoin Ryan posted to the blog as our MEP dusted off the keyboard to tell us about meeting the European Investment Bank. Ian McGahon has been a busy candidate too, but despite all the good work he is doing all I want to see is that opponents leaflet! Any Bray based voters so kind as to pass on the leaflet will get a nod in our next roundup email irishelection gmail.com please and thanks (do pass on anything you want for the roundup).

Casting our eye futher afield an interesting post over at the Cedar Lounge with the election material of one Raymond O Malley (Libertas in the East constituency). O’Malley seems to know more about Libertas’ positions than we do stating “Libertas believes in the right to life at all its stages, respect for the family, the elderly, those with special needs and the vulnerable… etc”. Great post.

And speaking of Libertas, we all knew Adrian was a wordsmith of pedigree but to craft poetry to the Chairman puts him in another league.

OK OK, I know its been George Lee crazy around here for the last day or so but I wont get a chance to post this excellent video on the global influence of Mr. Lee unless I do it now. Via Eric Byrne and 07by12.

It isn’t a web roundup without some lovely girls, this time the girls hunt down Eamon Gilmore and Alex White for their collection of pictures with aspiring election candidates canvassing in shopping centres.

If that’s what the Labour Party stands for then I’m all for it!

Bring on the Socialism, watered-down Labour style that is!

Has anyone noticed how extremely tiny the Fianna Fail logo is on the posters for the local elections. The font is minute compared to that for the name of the candidate. What does this tell us?

Same reason that Garrett Tuberity had his so small. Didn’t FF have to send out a memo telling canidates they must use the party logo?

Mary Lou has been dressed up to look like the president. Nice touch SF. Still won’t be voting for ye.

Just a clarification: Caroline Burrell contacted me to say she put her posters up between 12am and 4.30am on the 6th May, perfectly legally.

I’m confused! Did someone say Carolines posters were put before 12?
