At a distance all that was visible was the huge 1 AHERN, presumably intending that the magic name would spark all kinds of positive feelings, like a feel good hormone (He's back!! It's Bertie come to save us!! Rejoice ye wretched!!) So, by the time the actual image of the poor old white haired candidate became distinguishable (much later) and the name Cllr Maurice was readable, (later again), the idea of 1 AHERN had been so lodged in the brain that no other petty detail mattered. Not even the fact that, as the bus passed the poster, I finally, looking very carefully, spotted out of the corner of my eye, the shy little legend, Fianna Fáil.
