Bikes, mascots and video of radio programmes – It’s a round up!

Too many interesting things to hold back until later in the week. Many thanks for all the emails and texts! Keep them coming. (Previous round ups can be read here).
Eamon Gilmore has been getting on his bike, it’s the windswept look it seems. Pictured at the Alex White Campaign Poster launch today.

James Lawless is a Fianna Fáil candidate running in his first election in Nass in Co. Kildare. It’s far from easy being a Fianna Fail candidate and James sent a tweet today summarising his canvass problems so far.

Been a while since I’ve heard from Simon Harris. Simon was an early feature in this years pre campaign posts over on Maman Poulet. (Simon has since been confirmed as a local authority candidate for Wicklow as well as a candidate for Greystones Town Council.) I even met him at the Fine Gael Ard Fheis much to the amusement of the bloggers room in City West.
Over the weekend I heard something about a Simon Harris Mascot in Greystones. And it’s taken less than 24 hours for the goodies to come to Maman..

So which child has been bribed into this outfit and indeed are there any more candidate mascots out there? A Caroline Simons 3d Chicken? A Danny Healy Rae Hat? You know where to send the pictures.
And you know we are also looking for examples of election ephemera – not just the posters which have been tortured (Improved) but also the t-shirts, jackets, keyrings, balloons etc.
Who’s putting up Maurice Ahern’s posters in the Dublin Central By-election? The fine folk at the Property Pin were out with the camcorders (ah this might be the tool of Election 09 2.0).
And if you want to keep an eye on a by-election candidate’s online presence, Alexia Golez at election.ie (yes that’s where that domain name is!) is providing us with lists of who to find where and who’s bothered with d’internet. More to come too in this line of analysis.
Karen Coleman who presents the Wide Angle on Newstalk on Sunday mornings is now filming people in the studio and broadcasting clips from the radio programme on a Youtube channel. Not got enough George Lee? Not got enough exasperated George Lee? Want to see Shay Brennan? (He must have fans out there as well!) You can watch people appearing on the radio – it’s worth it I promise. And last weeks phone call to the programme from Conor Lenihan is also worth a listen.

thank you for those pictures. one outdoes the other, im not sure which is which though!!
Saw the Maurice Ahern poster from upstairs on a bus. At a distance all that was visible was the huge 1 AHERN, presumably intending that the magic name would spark all kinds of positive feelings, like a feel good hormone (He’s back!! It’s Bertie come to save us!! Rejoice ye wretched!!) So, by the time the actual image of the poor old white haired candidate became distinguishable (much later) and the name Cllr Maurice was readable, (later again), the idea of 1 AHERN had been so lodged in the brain that no other petty detail mattered. Not even the fact that, as the bus passed the poster, I finally, looking very carefully, spotted out of the corner of my eye, the shy little legend, Fianna Fáil.
Who’s in that mascot, a child perhaps? I pity them in 23 degree heat in a 1 suit.
