Bertie Lord Mayor?

Read more about: Dublin     Print This Post

From the Irish Times

FORMER TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern wants to be Dublin’s first directly elected mayor when the position comes into force in 2011, Minister for the Environment John Gormley said yesterday.

Mr Gormley said he knew Mr Ahern “has his eye” on the job.

Interesting if he is. It is well known that Bertie Ahern has his eye on the Aras but considering the the political winds have changed he is unlikely to get elected to that. So is he aiming at that job? I am not sure he could win that either. Considering Boris Johnson got into London maybe Jackie Healy Rae has a shot.

If that blabbering so called “cute” ginnet of a crook with a sliver tongue gets the position I will be the first to lob an egg at him. Did you see how he was angered on the regarding the establishment of the “Center for Public Inquiry” on the recent Chuck Feeney documentary?. Leave it to the fat cat lawyers to waste Feeneys entire philanthropic governmental gain on useless tribunals that do not have the powers to punish the sick greedy in politics and power!!!. You could write a book about his distinguishing features as he lies his way through his life. Fianna Fail age old rhetoric dead is as dead as a doornail. Tony Gregory RIP.

Oops, going to repost this as I was so livid at hearing the news that I simply flew away with myself and wrote and posted…..

It would be a tragedy for Ireland and a travesty of the highest order to have this bare-faced liar in any position of influence in Ireland – or elsewhere, especially Europe.

His “Mutterances” during his recent lecture tour were cringe-inducing and much of what he said was factually incorrect.

This man should be breaking stones in Mountjoy.

The exposure of “Expenses” malpractice in the UK should be a reminder to us that there can be no hiding place for the likes of Bertie Ahern.

The “expenses” claims are exacerbated by the huge number of MP’s – 600 to serve a population of 60 million – or 1 MP per 100,000 of population.

Taxpayers in the UK – quite rightly – consider this number excessive and have floated the figure of 200 as more realistic.

Consider this in the context of our little Island – 1 TD per 100,000 would amount to a Dail of 40-45.

On the basis of the demand of the UK taxpayers, it would be 15!

This would have huge benefits for the country.

But Bertie Ahern, about whom this article refers, used every device possible, within the Constitution – and each Census of Population, to increase the already bloated Government – and, indirectly, the vast army of unelected support crew; Public Relations; Speech Writers; Hairdressers; Police Drivers; plus the €80,000 motor cars they drive, much of it on overtime rates, costing millions annually.

    Plus Five new Junior Ministers.

All waste – at a time when Ireland requires restraint.

But ask the likes of Bertie Ahern to “Do Without” is like asking turkeys to vote for Christmas?

As Aidan said, Ahern’s rebuttal of Chuck Feeney’s comment about an investigation into Bertie’s “Dig Out” bungs & the corruption of his fellow Fianna Failures, was highly significant.

An Bord Pleanala & the Courts were, in his opinion, the only fora that he would permit – so Feeney was given his P45.

As I said – Be very aware of what this man stands for before considering him in any position of influence.

    He must be stopped.

I think its sickening to hear Bertie consider whether he goes for President or Lord Mayor (if the brief is extended of course) – Have we forgotten that this was a leader who stood down amid allegations of corrupt payments, who suggested suicide for anyone doubting the continuation of the property boom and who recently suggested that the property crash ‘could have been managed more effectively’. If cowardly Cowen had any liathroidi whatsoever, he would have at least asked Bertie to resign the party. A real leader would have sacked him. Instead he allows him hurl abuse at the party from the sidelines. This is a national disgrace but even the Irish Electorate can’t be fooled all the time. Bertie served the state well but the state has served him very, very well. If he gets any high level state job, I’ll not just throw eggs – I’ll throw petrol bombs at him.

Bertie has such a pathetic track record, I wouldn’t vote for him if you held a gun to my head. We all know he’s corrupt, it just hasn’t been proven.

Bertie Ahern wont run for president.

He might want the job all right, but if he were to run, he would probably lose badly.
Furthermore FF wont want to risk a bad result, so they would probably go with Crowley, who would probably fare better.
