Sans Obama Juice

Interesting to note over the weekend that despite their lack of Obama juice, Labour sent out an excellent email to their list complete with embedded video and a call to donate. No mega bucks on US consultants who were there on a MAC when Obama swept North Carolina but none needed. It is not about spending massive money to the latest snake-oil salesman offering you an all-in-one-stop-shop for candiate-to-voter connections. It is about using simple tools with an authentic voice.
Short and to the point, it wallops the Fianna Fail efforts so far – they are much more clunky and still struggling to find a voice to communicate to people. I have clipped it below the fold.
Dear Friend,
Following our very successful party conference, I wanted to draw your attention to a video profile which was shown at conference. You can view the video on our You Tube channel at:
Since the conference, the level of positive feedback that we have received about the quality of Labour candidates, has been remarkable. However, our candidates can only become elected public representatives with your help and support and in order to do that we need resources.
We understand that with the economic times we live in that money is tight and it is because of the times we find ourselves in that your contribution will be of great value to ensure tha t our Labour candidates are able to fight and win seats all over the country. You can donate to our election fund on our website:
The unfairness of last weeks budget underlines the importance of electing Labour candidates on June 5th.
Please feel free to forward this email to any of your friends and family that you think might be interested in helping out.

Cian,
I got that and thought it was pretty good. My only concern was the almost apologetic attempt at asking for support – talking about needing ‘resources’ rather than money, lacking any sense of urgency. If they could pick pocket one thing from Obama it would be to ask straight out for a clear sum of money – ‘give €20 today to help elect a Labour councillor in your local area’, for instance.
I would think that resources are equally if not more important for the local elections. Someone who will leaflet drop or even better come out for 2 night per week between now and polling day would be priceless to a candidate trying to make the most of any trade winds for Labour there might be out there.
i thought labour did an employ a web guru a couple of years back,is he still consulting?
Dan -agreed, (human) resources are crucial with an election coming up. But that not what this email is seeking – it seems to be looking for cash but is too polite to ask. A fatal flaw. If you’re going to ask, best to ask for one thing at a time – money or volunteers. By being vague, this email falls down. If the reader isn’t being clear what’s being sought, they’re far less likely to respond.
Zack Exley juice?
