Candidates Do not need “Obama Juice” or “Obama Tools” they just need a bit of cop on

I think this is worth posting on the day that is in it. As micandidate and other social media ontroponooors trot out meaningless twaddle about fixing politicians up with their yoof social media market (for a small fee per month) the list of those who are getting on fine without spending hundreds on the promise of Obama juice grows.

First of all, Joanna Tuffy TD and Labour Spokesperson on Environment and Heritage pops up on this blog yesterday to get into a debate on the reintroduction of fees. She didn’t have to pay moolah for the privilege.

Suzy has been having a converstion with so many local candidates it is baffling that people need to pay money for it. While she was busy breaking down her own doors to the public (are there even doors between politicians and the public anymore? I would have thought not in this country anyway), another candidate has – I think – become one of the first to send out emails with calls to donate.

Nessa Childers is running in Ireland East and one of the subcribers to her emails forwarded this to me after I posted on the Gilmore and Cowen/Lenihan emails earlier. Have a read – I think it beats the rest by a long way. Good language and good action, though the point that they could do with door knockers is equally valid.

Who needs the snake oil? It is all free for you to get on with.

Dear XXXXX

We’ve all felt the change in the public mood over the last few months.  First it was worry, then despair – now it’s turned to sheer anger against Fianna Fáil.

The European Elections are just six weeks away.  We have our best opportunity to take a seat in Ireland East for Labour since 1979.  We’re getting a huge response in towns and villages across Leinster.  People want rid of Fianna Fáil at local, national and European levels.

The opportunity for Leinster to have a Labour MEP has never been so real.

We can’t compete with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael for big business donors.

But we can beat them with the commitment of our members.

At the end of this month, we’re making the last hard decisions about allocating our resources.  And it will all come down to where we stand financially at midnight on the 30th.

We need to make decisions about strengthening our efforts – and identify opportunities for new votes.

You can decide how strong our team will be.

Please make a donation of €5 or more before the deadline.

I know it’s been a tough few months for you. And I know the Emergency Budget only looks like making it worse in the coming months.

But right now, we cannot hold back. We need to dig deep because what we do – or don’t do – between now and Election Day will make all the difference.

Please make a donation of €5 or more before the deadline to make our campaign as strong as it can be.

You can donate by online at http://www.nessachilders.ie/donate or by cheque payable to Labour Party Ireland East Campaign sent to me at the address below.

With your help, we can win this seat for Labour.

Nessa Childers

Labour Party Candidate, Ireland East

MiCandidate are running Google banner ads across the top of politicians’ profiles. So, pols pay a monthly fee to have visitors click through a google ad on their profile page? Ridiculous.

Allen, micandidate remind me a bit of the Evening Herald model for advertising revenue. If you were someone renting out a room you had to pay them for the placement of the ad, and if you were someone looking for a room you had to buy the Herald to read the ad. They were getting it from both sides, and frankly coining it.

Now you just use Daft. So micandidate is basically an old world revenue model in a web 2.0 world. Good luck to them if they can get away with it, but who in Enterprise Ireland thought this model made for a High Potential Startup?
