Bad News About the Plums

Thanks to a tweet earlier today from the Green Party, my attention was drawn to their new-ish campaign to get Ireland growing its own food. Spearheaded by Junior Minister (re-appointed) Trevor Sargent, the campaign wants to get people planting and looking after their food needs.
Welcome to Trevor’s crib:

More recently we have had some bad news about the plums;

    Oh Jesus. Once the background score started with the first one I was gone.

    Minister Titchmarsh, could you not have roped in Ms. De Burca to stroll around braless in a loose fitting top?

    I’m all for politicians and new media, but this is off the wall. He’d be far better off doing a straight-to-camera peice about what political work he did that week. People look to politicians for leadership, not onions.

    “A major part of his life” – “Out in the Garden everyday” … right and Trevor is a sitting TD and back again as a Junior minister again. You know I had given some credit to people who said at some point the Greens might up and leave Government over some major crisis. This video shatters that idea, he was one of the `sane’ Greens ….

    I’d have to agree with Mark, where is the leadership ? If I wanted a gardener I’d hire a gardener not a fecking TD and bloody junior Minister at that! Sweet good God, how can the Dublin in Balbriggan vote for him.

    I’d imagine these videos will need to be downloaded rather rapidly as once somebody in their press offices sees this kind of carry on, they’ll have to be pulled.

    I worked with a bloke from up north who used say “show us your plums” quite a bit but I think he meant something else by it.

    Oh, come on lads, be charitable! At least it’s an improvement on Ministers for State cutting ribbons on fatuous enterprises in their own constituencies for their own narrow electoral benefit..

    Has to be one of the funniest posts ever though! Poor Trevor; poor plum tree.

    Lads, this is not a party political broadcast, its a vegetable gardener talking about how he makes the most of his plot, and why we shouldn’t prune our plum trees in winter!

    There are thousands of backyard gardeners with videos on youtube, but very few in the Irish context, and none so well known as Trevor Sargent. And as someone starting a backyard veg garden in a small space, I found these informative.

    Well by the time Lenihan finishes taxing us to bail out the developers and the bankers we’ll have to grow our own food or starve

    Personally I think it is nice video.

    It is, Simon, it is. It’s sweet. Like the plums, except there are no plums…

    I’ve been informed that the phrase was “hold your plums” inspired by a radio show of the day.
