Memory Lane

Read more about: Vote Saturday     Print This Post

Back in the heady day of the Celtic Tiger. We here on Irish Election ran a campaign to get the day of the election moved away from Thursdays(loads of posts here).  Getting 1381 signatures. We got on radio and in the media. Fine Gael even brought a motion in the dail up.

We even had a button. vote-saturday.gifAnyway the election was held on a thursday.

I was reminded about this by the Joe Rospars thing. And then realised hey the locals and bye elections are on a Friday. Which is not quiet a Saturday but something we did say was adequate.

I have no idea if we had any influence at all in this decision but hey say no to Temporal Gerrymandering. :)

    Simon,

Friday helps Students vote – may help the Greens?

Is temporal gerrymandering slightly on the agenda.

I guess the Vote is on a friday as the EU elections across the rest of the EU are probably on a the same day. I guess the date was set by Europe. But correct me if I am wrong.

We will see what happens with the lisbon date as that will be the governments choice. My guess it would be either a Friday or a Saturday (like nice 2) to maximise the youth vote. I used to know all these arguments god that was 2 years ago. How time flies.
