It is probably unfair that she is found out while public finance are in shit-street. Other independents who rejoin or join parties have kept the allowance (at least for a while) before giving it up. But Beverly manages to put such a brave face on these things.
FIANNA FÁIL backbencher Beverly Flynn has put herself on a collision course with Taoiseach Brian Cowen after she said it was “a bit unfair” to suggest she give up a €41,000-a-year independent TD allowance which she will continue to claim.
Mr Cowen said at the weekend he will discuss the allowance with Ms Flynn in the next two weeks and take whatever action is appropriate.

According to Pete at Slugger, that money’s hers for the full Dail term. If the party takes it from her, it will have to refinance from central funds without compensation. Enda must be laughing heartily up his sleeve.
I’m going to give the Western People and the county offices a call tomorrow, looking for the nomination form for 2007. Then I’m going to go looking for FF to provide membership lists for Mayo for the last decade and I’m going to compare the two. If she was nominated by people who were in fact members of FF (remember FF disbanded some branches in Castlebar after her departure but it is not 100% clear if they actually voided the membership of those people). If the people who nominated her were still de facto members of FF then her entitlement to this allowance is in question.
This is not really an issue.
All such allowances should be recinded with immediate effect.
They are not earned & there is no justification for them.
It will save Cowen a lot of time arguing with this despicable Flynn person.
Whilst he is at it, Cowen might abolish “Political Donations” and similar “Bungs”.
He has closed down the Speculators’ Tent at Galway Races.
Time to finish the job & clean up the filth that has become the way of politics in Ireland since the accession of Haughey & Co.
And it might be timely for Barak Obama to take a close look at “Political Donations” in the United States of America.
A significant percentage of funding – to both the Republican & Democratic parties (particularly Mrs. Bill Clinton)comes from corporations sympathetic to Israel.
This sends out a lethal message to any one who cares to stop & take an overview of the conflict in the Middle East.
Beverly Flynn is the public face of the worst elements of republican Fianna Fail and naked Greed.
But she is merely a microcosm of the corruption that follows in the wake of “Donations”.
There will be no justice in Ireland & no peace in The Middle East until this corrupt practice is stopped, worldwide.
It is not just an Irish problem & 2009 is the perfect time to start with a clean sheet – to show the world that politics can survive without Bungs in return for financial & other favours.
