Irish Blogging and Social Media Conference 200827

I am a bit behind the curve on this one -wierd since we are organising it! In the next couple of days, we here at irishelection.com and  partners at EU Irish Representation will be announcing full details of the 2008 Blogging and Social Media Conference. Running on October 4th in the EU Building on Dawson Street in Dublin.

The lineup is being finalised at present but we are hopeful of a mix of international and Irish guests to discuss the impacts and uses of blogging/social media in political, journalistic and NGO life. The keynote speaker will be Zack Exely who is coming over from the USA to share his experience and respond to our own situation and where we might be heading.

There is a page for the conference with a few more details and a registration page here on the site – registering on either is fine for getting in. Consider this an early warning – I will be bombarding you with details in the coming days – for the meantime it would be great if you popped over to have a read and – if coming – register to attend (entry will be free, there will be lunch and drinks after included). Thanks to Philippe and the team at the EU for their kind support of this discussion.

There are a few outlines floating around the place for the day’s proceedings but they are still flexible in many cases and open to change. I wil be posting regularly to update the situation – make sure you register though, space is limited!

I threw me name down yesterday but there appears to be no acknowledgement mechanism and I was just wondering if it might be worth doing that so people don’t end up registering multiple times via different means. Just a thought.

    Kudos on the effort again.

Dan, a good point – i will try to get it set up and in the meantime let people know by email if they registered.

Why is this so obviously linked to the EU? Surely we would want to be considered an independent voice away from any influence?

simon, have ye taken the goulash?

A fair point simon but they are willing to provide space for the event and facilitate our debate. It is something that they can learn from and it doesnt mean EU debate here on the site will be stifled.

It is an issue of pragmatism more than anything else – most people who are approached to sponsor this run a mile from political events. This time round it was the other way the approach was made – making organising more straight forward for the conference itself.

We have all written stuff critical of the EU and i dont think that this will stop us.
