Forgot about this post until five minutes ago. Regular readers knew Ahern was standing down all the way back to St Patrick’s Day thanks to the psychic prowess of P O’Neill.
So Bertie Ahern has resigned after almost 10 years in charge. Which brought the Celtic Tiger and the Good Friday Agreement, he has been minister for Labour, Industry and Finance. He will go down in History as one of our most important leaders. But now he is history so who is the future? Comments please.

10:30am: Bertie Ahern has announced a last-minute, unexpected press conference to be held before his statement to the Dáil.
Reports on the substance are mixed although many outlets are suggesting that a resignation date, or even an immediate resignation from the leadership of Fianna Fáil, is expected.
