Fine Gael’s Brian Hayes says that Education under this government is pretty much perfect.

In a surprise move Brian Hayes endorsed the government policy on education.

“Nothing less than a quantum leap in how we teach is necessary for Ireland to become a major player in the global knowledge economy”

Now Quantum Leap is not just a TV show, it is when an electron moves from one energy level in an atom to another energy level in an atom. Which is a minuscule movement indeed it is I am pretty sure the smallest movement an electron can make. So really the sentence says.

Nothing less then a minuscule change in how we teach is necessary for Ireland to become a major player in the global knowledge economy.

Maybe instead of giving kids laptops we could have a few politicians that know something about science?

Edit: Just thought Brian could say this instead.

Nothing less then folding through a higher dimension in how we teach.

Explanation below the fold.

    My brain hurts.

    Or not.

    Or both.

    Ad infinitum.

Maybe string theory is what Fine Gael need in order to find a universe where Enda Kenny is Taoiseach.

Simon as you said yourself “…Quantum Leap…,it is when an electron moves from one energy level in an atom to another energy level in an atom.” so moving education on to another level is bad now? As you well know I’m sure that the distance from the electrons to the nucleus of the atom is quite large when compared to the size of the nucleus and moving the electrons out a further level is quite significant there again they might not be moving at all as it they are after all in an electron cloud as they could be anywhere at any point in time.

Or are you just being ionic?

Dan Quantum leap can also be the movement to a level below. So another level can indeed be bad.

And it is a quanta of movement. It is the smallest movement possible for an election. (Which differs from the classical and relativistic ideas of continuous energies.) As you say the distance is comparability large to the nucleus but also the distance of a quantum leap is comparativly tiny to that overall distance. Also they are very much not every where they are in energy levels specific level hence we have the photoelectric effect.

simon, probability is all about probabilities of where the electron may be not where it is for certain. Many electrons may in fact have been present at the hand over of Mr. Wall’s cash to Bertie and at the bank where he changed the cash, or they may not have been.

No probability says you don’ know where exactly it is. ie you know which room in the house it is but not exactly where in the room.
