So Pat Rabbitee is gone and so shall start the banding about about how his pact with FG was the reason that Labour failed to make any gains. But it was not. The reason that Labour failed to make gains is that no one really cared for their policies or [...]

So, the political catastrophe for Labour that was the Mullingar Accord continues to work its dark magic. First it skewers the Labour Party in the General Election, now it fells Pat Rabbitte.
I have two reasons to thank Pat Rabbitte for assistance he gave me over the years. So while politically I fear his tenure will [...]

Ireland.com is now saying that “senior sources” have confirmed Rabbitte’s resignation is the reason for this afternoon’s Labour press conference.
Rabbitte has been hobbling since his party’s poor showing at the elections earlier this year where Labour lost one seat rather than make the large gains many had hoped for.
When the poor performance became clear many [...]

Two different sets of data out today point up just how tricky the economic picture is at present. We are all aware that property and construction are on the down spin but the impact this will have on the wider economy is a matter of debate. There are suggestions the wider economy is robust enough [...]

Noel Dempsey is no doubt delighted that he is in the position to deliver an outer orbital route that looks likely to considerable help Meath’s commuting voters. The report delivered to him last night suggests building an outer orbital route from Drogheda (south of the new port-so what was the effing port tunnel for?) through Meath [...]

For several days now the media and the blogosphere have been asking after the whereabouts of Bertie.
Fair enough you might say. He is Taoiseach and has been elected Taoiseach.
Where is Enda Kenny, though? He is the former Taoiseach-in-waiting and we are led to believe that he is the future Taoiseach-in-waiting. He is leader of the [...]

Aer Lingus pilots have called of the strike after the two sides agreed to head to the Labour Relations Commission. Good news for travellers no matter what.
Also almost a month into the Shannon - LHR issue the Taoiseach takes his head from the Kenmare air to enter the fray. Its interesting to see the teflon tactics used again despite [...]

Last month I wrote a post about the glut of housing in Ireland, and how, as a society, we have experienced a mortgage boom, rather than a simple housing boom. A couple of people have suggested that “holiday homes down the country” account for the large amount of empty Irish housing units. Others have said [...]

Back in 1971 Neil Blaney was sacked from Jack Lynch’s government over the arms trial. And he set up Independent Fianna Fail which re-joined last year. So with pressure on Willie O’Dea to resign over his pro-Shannon stance. If he left the party what would happen? Firstly Willie O’Dea is quiet popular in the mid-west [...]

Fianna Fail certainly read their Sun Tzu. The legendary author of the ancient classic, ‘The Art of War’, stated that
To defeat your enemy without fighting is best.
Yes, indeed. Fianna Fail won the economics debate long before the last election began. And they hardly had to fire a PR shot. Labour’s Pat Rabbitte TD, suggested [...]

After drifting a little bit the SNN-LHR controversy and the related issue of the Aer Lingus strike are heating up again this evening. The latest non-Bertie non-Dempsey spokesperson for the government is Mary Hanafin — perhaps she was the only one around given the Leaving Cert results. And the employee trust has spoken up. This [...]

So the “fallout” from the Math’s results continues. With both Fine Gael and Labour coming out with statements blaming the government and that they will bring joined up thinking to the problem etc etc. Problem both Labour and Fine Gael miss one of the biggest problems with Math and indeed Labour miss it in the [...]

With today’s results showing that the results for Higher Level Maths are down. Everyone is talking about how this is bad and how incentives should be given for people to do math etc. The simple fact of the matter is that Math is hard. You can learn off by rote History, English pretty much every [...]
