Morgan pledges support for Unions in battle against privatisation of ESB. Isn’t he great?
Speaking today as ESB Unions met to discuss possible strike action over plans to hand over the National Transmission Grid to private company Eirgrid,
Oh dear a private company how terrible. Thing is look up Eirgrid and you find out.
EirGrid is owned by [...]

Niall O Brolchain took up some of the comments made in the Business Post attributed to Seamus Brennan on Sunday and called for a review of the whole Galway Races tent. Certainly it smacks of pretty uncomfortable symbolism but it would be an equally big win for the Green party if it got concessions on [...]

According to Bank of Ireland’s Wealth of the Nation Report (Hat tip Finfacts), we are the second richest in the world after the Japanese. With €196,000 per head of population we are doing well. It certainly is an interesting statistic that shows the growth of the nation is motoring on. However 72% of Irish wealth [...]

Minister John Gormley recieved a letter from chairman of the Petitions Committee in the EU Parliament. The letter suggests that building on the M3 should be halted following the findings made at Lismullen earlier this year.
The site at Lismullen is a National Monument but as was reported earlier, the recommendation of the National Museum was to preserve [...]

Brian Lenihan has been a man willing to walk in and out of the spotlight, look at his low profile adopted viz the Rostas family. Today though, the Justice Minister is talking about tackling our drinking culture, a theme similarly associated with his predecessor’s ‘cafe-bar’ proposal. The Minister suggested today that the government would be [...]

UPDATE: The following letter was printed in the July 28th edition of The Irish Times denying links with Justin Barrett, and also denying - to the “almost certain knowledge” - his presence at the election centre count. Senator Mullen also denied the same on Newstalk 106 this morning. This to be welcomed. The original [...]

Just listening to the Tom Mcgurk and someone made a point about the deportation of the Roma Gypsies. If McDowell had been the person who had made the decision which most politicians would have made. People would be crucifying McDowell in the media. Yet Brian Lenihan does it and the media agrees with it.

Of the entire world, Ireland probably has the most to thank for from globalisation. While the likes China and India have also boomed, the social changes that globalisation has brought to Ireland has been greater then the changes that have been made in China where civil rights abuses still are rife and India where the [...]

Sinn Fein are one of the most anti-EU parties in Irish Politics summed up pretty much by their numerous releases along the lines of Sinn Féin wants a Europe of equals not a federal superstate. But in the Irish context they had the Eire Nua document of a while back which with the rise of [...]

If there wasn’t such tribunal fatigue not to mention the distractions of summer, today at the Mahon Tribunal would have counted as major news. The main revelation was that, in a move that looks very ill-advised (or not advised at all), Bertie directly contacted an AIB official a few months ago to make sure that there [...]

And so the counting has begun following the elections, such as they were, to the perennially ignored talking shop that is Seanad Eireann. The campaign to woo the electorate of a few thousand politicians and university graduates has largely been ignored by the media- and for good reason. No body of well paid and intelligent [...]

RTE is reporting that the Mahon Tribunal was told by an AIB official this afternoon that Bertie Ahern’s version of events surrounding the payments made to his account of nearly £25,000 “does not add up”. According to evidence given by Philip Murphy today, the account given by Bertie on how the money got to his [...]
