Sargent to be junior minister

Following on from Cían’s post about additional minister of state positions, Bertie Ahern has confirmed that Trevor Sargent will be one of the twenty put forward in the coming days.

Sargent said he wouldn’t take a full ministry after he announced his resignation as Green Party leader – he said he would, however, take a junior ministry if offered.

It seems as though is Sargent moving away from the front-lines to allow for an open and fair Green leadership election, but keeping himself prominent enough to be in the running for a mid-term Cabinet substitution in 2010.

(My bet is that he’ll be put in Transport, by the way.)

I disagree I think he’s going to Agriculture as a Minister of State for food.
