Errors and Omissions

The following is taken from my notebook. It was written on January 3rd this year, as I tried to make a list of problems to solve or salve. I haven’t changed any of it in the light of hindsight. It will be my last post on politics for a month.
- The main opposition party is further to the right than FF. Its only possible partners are to FF’s left.
- FG is stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
- FF is a permanent government. The rich and powerful have come to accommodations with it. Therefore they will all resist change.
- Bertie is indestructible. Any attack on him is counterproductive.
- The opposition are used to losing.
- Many voters find party politics boring and irrelevant. The incumbents have the most to lose and therefore the greatest incentive to motivate their support.
- The parties react to the media as though they were actually voicing common concerns, rather than their own. Worries over policy documents, when manifestos are irrelevant.
- Opposition continue, in the main, to do the same thing and expect different results: one of the definitions of madness.
- Desperate lack of talent.
- Control freakery in Labour HQ.

Point 1 is the one which I find utterly counter intuitive in terms of the behaviour of the Irish ‘left’.
So your point is
