Here is a copy of an email which popped into my inbox yesterday evening.
Hi
As you know, I have been trying to setup a school providing ABA tuition for (my son) since June 2005. Irish Autism Action are helping our group along with 11 other groups setting up schools around the country to lobby the Government to fund the 347 children involved.
To support the campaign please FREETEXT the word ACTION to 50308 and ask your family and friends to do the same. It won’t cost you anything but the number of votes registered will be used to show how much support we have (only one vote per mobile number counts) .
Thanks
Ann
Now I’d like you to honestly answer this :
Which of the following questions would you like to hear the media put to the various election candidates when given the chance?
(a) With which other party/ies would you like to go into coalition?
(b) What is your opinion on Bertiegate?
(c) Will your party consider subsidising basic education for 347 autistic children if in Government?
For me, the most important aspect of this election is the way the Irish electorate presents itself to the candidates and not vice versa.
We need to make it clear that we are capable of discerning the real issues facing this country and that we can cut through political spin like a hot knife through butter.
There’s still time to make this election about poliCY not poliTICS.

I think that a major problem is that the candidates spend a terrible amount of focusing on the media and not the electorate. Until the media pays attention to an issue like ABA schooling, then we won’t see the candidates addressing the issues.
There’s a piece in Today’s Irish Times by Mary Raftery on this. Maybe thta’ll focus minds?
