Are they getting more and more desperate?

I am sure Ciaran Cuffe is delighted. If they are doing a deal with the devil, they need a good negotiator.

I think there is a real appetite on their part to get into government. Whether there is a recipricol attitude on the part of FF is the question. And where is Labour in all this?

Phoenix reckon its a FF/Labour deal in the offing and all this is a merry dance. It would make sense to have exhausted all options come a vote on June 14 only for the slate to be wiped clean.

Equally after all the press releasing, it would be a neglect of duty for FF not to meet with the greens, they are screaming for power at this stage. Certainly FF must be confident of picking them off bit by bit.

Greens do a deal with FF…bye-bye Greens. The essential for FF is to find someone to blame for the economic downturn of the next 2 years.

PS as for Labour – what part of “No” doesn’t the press understand?

a fair point gordon. But to be honest, no one really believes “no” at this point of the game (pace 1992). If Bertie wants stability, FF/Lab is the way to go. If Bertie wants what he knows it is not. The option is open to him and politically (to my mind) it chimes with the centre-left wing of Fianna Fail which is beginning to itch for ministerial power. In the same way the PDs provided intellectual succour for the last ten years, so he may see Labour as a coalition which moves to those issues for “change”.

It is all conjecture. I would give the possibility 10% at best, but never discount the possibility.

Claims on politics.ie that John Deasy is about to defect to the PDs in return for a junior ministry.

would cement their place in power (and make a government at 81 far more stable) but would they really want him? He will be angling for leader in few days time.

Kenny would be happy to see the back of him (even at losing one seat) as it cements his leadership for the next while.

    Deasy is a twat.

  11. # Comment by Dermot Jun 1st, 2007 13:06

I would be very surprised if Deasy defected to the PD’s. Not really his politics and there is really no PD organistaion in Waterford anymore, although Martin Cullen did hold a seat way back.
That said there is no doubt that there is a fairly concerted campaign by FG HQ to get rid of him.
Not sure its fair to say he’s “a twat”. Bright compared to most of the FG dregs, ambitious and probably doesn’t want to waste away his political life on the opposition benches.
