Its on youtube now. I watched it on TV to get the full effect. I have to say it reminded me in the first instance of a Channel 4 nostalgia show.
My own feeling on it was that it had too much of an air of “look what we have done”, “look what we did when in power”. Perhaps I am the only one but it exuded a sense of finality.
Almost the first draft of the historical record on this government (which cannot be helped in the context of the Westminster speech). Still some star-studded video.
Now if only Enda could get Angela and citizen Dave (or even the very supportive John Major).
Head over to our T
It’s an epitaph, not a part political broadcast. It should finish with
Ahern: 1977-2007
My thoughts exactly, Ben.
Yeah, it was like one of those 100 Greatest shows. “In at no 17, Bertie Ahern and the Peace Process”. All it needed were some failed reality TV stars talking about how Bertie changed their lives. Possibly even more unusual than the Green broadcast – students of political media are getting thesis-filling material every day. Bad form for Blair doing this in an election where a fellow PES party participates (although I’m not sure that Labour (Ireland) would appreciate any overt support from Blair in any event!).
Gold watch for Bertie. Now can we get on with the election?
Very much a collection of people who were important once.
A bit of cameron there John? Though I cant see Enda getting away with “you were the future once”
Northern Ireland’s fixed! Great! Another reason we don’t need Bertie Ahern anymore!
I agree with the sentiments expressed by Ben and Daithi. Its a nice tribute to Bertie and his work up North but doesn’t really give you any reason to vote for him next week.
It needs a change of tone mid-way through. Perhaps the airy music could be replaced by a sinister and threatening score as some dark, shadowy threat, looming just on the horizon, is revealed to us. They could close by convincing us that, given his experience in Northern Ireland, only Bertie could tackle it.
Paul MF – you have just shown how immature you really are. Its obvious that you do not live anywhere near Northern Ireland. If you witnessed the kind of lives people had compared to the lives they have now, you would be praising Bertie Ahern.
And please do not reply making little of what I have just said – I have seen the troubles first hand and the change Bertie Ahern and Tony Blair have brought is immense.
Berties video was staight out off Chris Morris’s The Day today…. all that was missing at the end was a group hug between the lads at the end……
Speaking of Bill Clinton:
It is opined that Bill Clinton committed racist hate crimes, and I am not free to say anything further about it.
