Dirty Tricks: Fianna Fáil abortion dirt about Greens

Hearing in from people in Dublin that some over-eager Fianna Fail campaigners are telling people that the Green Party are going to legalise abortion as a result of the Miss D case and it’ll be as easy as getting cigarettes from vending machines. Talked to someone in the Green Party who confirmed that they are getting more than the usual number of calls on their abortion policy. Asked them to confirm their policy:
The Green Party has not taken an official position on the Miss D case. There are many different views within the party, and we are thus treating it as a matter of personal conscience. Should any legislation arise as a result of the case, it is very likely that there would be a ‘free vote’, that is, there would be no party whip.
Anyone hear about any other parties doing the same stunts?
Head over to our T
That is seriously low. That kind of acitivy anooys me greatly. I woudln’t vote for someone if they lied to me about other people’s policies on such an emotive issue.
Hope it backfires on them. A lot of political cowardice on this issue in Irish politics but hopefully people realise the stunt and turn their anger on FF.
Bit vague, who in FF, what constituencies, when. Fact, dates, people the amount of black spin in this election is incredible.
A Fianna Fáil canvasser just came around my door to tell me not to vote for Fine Gael because ‘they want to bring abortion back in’. I just wrote about it on my blog, and I’ll post it here too.
Eyes up to heaven: It was in Glasnevin, a canvasser for Pat Carey, Dublin North West, and it happened about an hour ago. Believe me, there’s nothing to spin. It happened.
Guys if there is even the slightest chance that a party will bring in abortion they have to be stopped. History will look back at the late 20th and early 21st century and be appaled at the attrocities waged against the unborn. For the record I am a (relatively) liberal gay man aged 30. I’m v open to peoples rights but not when women whinge “my body, my choice” – its NOT.
Kildarelad, we’re not debating the issue of abortion here. The issue is that FF are lying about the stance of other parties on what is clearly an emotive issue, in order to get votes.
Obfusacting one’s own party policy on a particular issue is as equally unpalatable as cynically manipulating another’s. Surely the basis of democracy is to debate your viewpoint and not to cry fowl when attention is drawn to it.

What on earth is that supposed to mean? The Greens shouldn’t complain if Fianna Fáil are misrepresenting their policy?
The comment from the Greens is not “obfuscating” the party policy, it’s clarifying that the party doesn’t have a policy on the subject. You can debate the rights and wrongs of that, but surely it doesn’t make it any more excusable for FF canvassers to make up a policy for us.
The enviromentalists are the biggist liars around they wont be happy till were all living a miserble primative extense they deserve to be stranded on a desert island for the rest of their lives
