In an earlier reply, to some speculation as to the result, I said that I hoped he would be returned – to clean up the mess he, and his associates in Fianna Fail, has made of the economy.

It will be interesting to see who he brings in to prop up the loss of the PDs.

More than likely Labour – minus Rabbitte – who must, perforce, fall on his penknife, having rejected any possibility of coalition – and possibly the Greens.

In the process, government will get Liz McManus – possibly Tanaiste – Joan Burton & Rory Quinn – all able people.

Martin Cullen & Michael Martin should be sent out to grass; Brennan back into Communications; Hanafin back to school, with O’Donoughue.

One can only wait and see, but there will be a fair opposition and when the housing market collapses; re-possessions start to bite; inward incvestment dries up on the back of outrageous wage claims and gridlocked roads, there will be lots of snowballs to throw across the floor of the House.
