There is a new site we came across recently LabourTVIreland. It does not seem to be a Labour product. A whois of the site puts Fabrice Jolivet as the contact. Which suggests it is Joomla project. Also the site does not really fit in with Labour’s web design certain not as well designed with the rent a crowd pic. Basically it is video’s of people asking Labour Questions like.
Head over to our T
Seems to be badly put together when compared with labour.ie and there guy (Ken) in the clip here asks a question with regard to health but there is no links to any health answers. This is particularly crappy as with a little surfing I found a video (http://www.labourtvireland.com/galway/hospital/) by Michael D Higgins answers some of the questions asked by Ken O’Brien in his video. Looking at Joomla and at Mambo, I’d written them off a couple of years ago as they don’t provide a decent platform CMS for the actual requirements of users and political sites, they’re underlying architecture just required too much hacking to deliver something which fitted into a user’s mental model of a political website.
Poor information architecture and interaction design, hope that Labour didn’t actually pay for the site but if its just somebody throwing it out for free, well I’d guess they’d need to take a second look at their design.
I like the idea, even if unpolished and flakey.
It’s nothing to do with the Labour Party officially. I heard it’s a few Labour members who have put it together, but without “sanction from above”.
yeah keith it seems that way alright, good idea for labour perhaps to pick it up. a great way of actually utilising youtube beyond hoping for something to go viral. It also gives the videos purpose beyond advertising
Its core idea of a video Q&A has merit but I can’t see why they don’t simply leverage the existing video sites which provide tagging and playlists to provide the backend functionality and have a couple of clean, simple pages linking through to the videos rather than the current navigation nightmare. I’m pretty sure you could get this idea to work if you followed the approach of videothevote, which is simply to sit in front of youtube or google video and with the additional info from your form submit the video onwards.
Well it was bad hair day for starters. Should have been better prepared and also technology didn’t help. I’d suggest that braz didn’t really listen to myself or Michael D. Higgins.
Michael made a party political broadcast for his constituency with some vague woolly ideas about step down facilities and public nursing as one would expect from him. This is fair enough in the context of his constituency however there were no details about when or how it might be done. He mentions nothing about nurses, consultants, reform or anything else that needs to be looked at. I actually used the word “concrete” in my question. To date as far as I can see there are no concrete or specific details. Now I am all for free speech but before you conclude at least listen to people properly.
