Now while I agree it the Greens on a ban on corporate donations. But sometimes they just annoy me with it. They are like kids not wanting to play football and then complaining about not being picked on the team. From John Gormley in the Dail
“I come from a party which does not accept corporate donations. How are we expected to contest an election with people who are funded up to the gills, sometimes by developers, and others, who have vested interests?
You come from a party that decided not to accept corporations decided to contest the election without them and then complain that you don’t have them. I mean cop on you made your decision live with it. Campaign for your policy but don’t whine about suffering because of it.
Head over to our T
He is campaigning for our policy – it is our policy that corporate donations should be banned.
I know it is your policy and said it in the post. But look what he “How are we expected to contest an election with people”. That is not saying there should be no donations. That is saying it is unfair we don’t have any. Two different things. If you are campaigning for a policy like this why would you play the martr, you would just make the argument about why corporate donations are bad. (in fact I would be against any donation) not say how it is unfair to you
My reading of it is that the Greens are saying political donations are unfair because they create an unlevel playing field and help generate a culture where the election starts earlier for parties with more financial clout. It’s not whining or a contradiction to say that the Greens, along with other small parties, are a victim of this unfair situation. Its a criticism of the culture rather than a moan that they should also have access to the same amount of money.
Exactly Donagh. All Gormley and the Greens want is a level playing field, nothing more. I agree with him completely.
