It seems Derek Mc Dowell's call for a "Rock the Vote" campaign was rather prescient after all given what the boys and girls in Trinity are up to.

Labour does need to start letting its candidates do a bit on camera. And soon.

I'm definitely against the pact, but not against labour going into government with Fine Gael. Pre-election pacts are just a bad tactic. The Greens are playing it great. Keeping to their issues, and keeping their options open. The presidential stance of modern Irish politics is so silly because it's an american tactic for an Irish situation. But the reason why it's needed in the States is because of the sheer scale of the country. You have to have a single figure who shines on TV in order to win. Ireland is just so small that that type of politic is ineffectual - and yet the main parties and their backroom boys continue to stick to it. Too many boys and gals polishing their Washington internships to focus on the différance I fear. The real growth in Irish politics in the past ten years has been in independents - how can that be if the cure is presidential-type figure-head politics? People want people who stick to the issues. Independents are doing that and are getting elected. As are the Greens.

But yeah, post-election, Rabbitte's got a fight on his hand.

i think the greens are fighting a really good campaign so far. a proper niche left party.

also derek mcdowell is busier <a href="http://www.labour.ie/press/listing/1169988904152344.html" rel="nofollow">rocking the vote</a>.

I take it your against the pact with FG?

Viz Rabbittes profile, modern irish politics is so presidential that the spinsters can make a good case that splitting the labour profile (and acting like a party) would lose votes. I think its right that the party have a number of diverse voices on issues but in the end it seems that to have options post election will require a change of leader
