Direct from a source in Athboy: FG HQ has directed that three candidates be chosen. Sarah’s complaint is being realised. So it’s Geraghty, but on a diluted ticket. Updates to follow.
Update: As expected given the above, the convention has concluded without a vote, and the three candidates are Damien English TD, Graham Geraghty and Peter Higgins. IE’s sources say that HQ knew that Geraghty didn’t have the votes to win tonight but wants him on the ticket. GG supporters are floating a scenario whereby Higgins is “persuaded” to withdraw, with a nudge from HQ. And [final update] Sarah provides the post-mortem.
So FG HQ go with running 3 in a three seater but can’t bring themselves to run 3 in a five seater in Limerick East to nail down the 2nd seat. Is it seats we want to win or are we just going through the motions in some places?

4 seats 4 candidates. It looks like going through the motions or else they will have so many seats the dont need to worry about trifling issues like these.
