Sunday’s Press

Just on Newstalk this evening—sorry for the late note—having a look at tomorrow’s papers; not sure when the links go up, but there are a few juicy ones on the front pages, notably:
In the Sindo, PD Senator John Minihan seems to suggest that the PD policy of a 1% cut in stamp duty is being pushed for this budget and not a proposal for the party’s manifesto. This is bound to cause some friction, with Bertie promising a E200 old age pension. Watch this space.
The Tribune suggests that efforts to cut the number of errors in our electoral register (previously 800,000) have had some undesirable results. Figures on their front page suggest that the number is now 500,000 but in the process have cut tens of thousands of names from the register in error. It is hoped this can be remedied, but unless all those cut from the register are aware of it, the prospect of people being turned away next May seems more likely.
Also in the Trib, Labour Youth had their conference this weekend and voted against the FG/Labour pact again. This seems to feed into the growing feeling in more parts of the pact may be doing more harm than good. We’ll have to wait and see.
Head over to our T
heard on a sunday show today that first thing this morning the pds denied what minihan said
all the hallmarks of a marxist- type party id say
its unity all the way now with feel and fall until the bleedin’ election
its not a smart idea reducing stamp duty for first time buyers because the houses at the lower end of the market will just be jacked up
far smarter to give tax credits to first time buyers for a few years -say five – who dont have to declare their business to auctioneers or vendors or anyone
have you noticed the pds not appearing on many radio shows, heads down and all that – whats all that about ?
