Poll shows improvement for the Government

Read more about: Polls     Print This Post

A poll to be published in tomorrow’s Irish Examiner has the parties at:

FF 39% +1
FG 24% +1
Lab 10% -2
SF 9% -1
Grn 6%
Ind 6%
PD 6% +1

As with all polls I should be taken with a grain of salt with the trend more important then the numbers. But this puts FF/PDs on 45% and FG/Lab/Green on 40%. Anybody reading much into this?

Update: the McDowell data:

Michael McDowell remains a polarising figure, with 40% feeling his emergence as leader of the PDs was a positive development and 30% against.

they had an ad on the radio suggesting the poll took data on McDowell and the PDs too.
Id be interested to see when it was done, since the think-in season may have been a factor.

The REDC polls are conditioning the environment somewhat where we used have occasional polling we now have one month on month poll. The results here are a big differnce.

The PDs are double what the RedC poll has them. I think a lot of politics and votes is still to play for though.

Really bad news for labour (cue louder mutterings about proximity to FG)

ya I know the polls are all over the place put the one consistent thing is Labour falling. Pat really has to be looking very closely at himself. At this rate they will lose seats. The coalition is dependent on Fine Gael to do the heavy lifting.

Also I added the McDowell numbers.

Oh the prophets of doom. Simon it is not quite true to say that the one consistent thint is Labour falling. With the exception of this poll Labour have been holding their own and indeed depending on which poll you read have incresed their rating. As a Labour Party representative I am confident that Labour will increase its number of seats. I can see the election posters now “Another 5 years of this – No thanks” All to play for yet.

Well they are down 2 in this.

From dec 05 to July 06 in the red c polls they droped from 13-12.
In the Times MRBI jan 06 -may 06 they droped from 16-15%
Not sure which polls have you up.
You must admit that you would want to do more then just hold your own.

Taking a trend from this is a bit difficult, as the last poll done by Lansdowne was a year ago. Also, the poll was taken in the immediate aftermath of the PD leadership debate, so I’d expect the PDs to have taken a two percent bump (at least) from the blanket media coverage. Not great from Labour, but one poll is only one poll.
