John Gormley Trash-talking or Talking Rubbish?

Ah John, John, John. Isn’t it great when people misuse words and phrase to make a political point, like trying to make someone seem wrong by associating them with some group like the Nazis by suggesting that massaging crime figures is akin to inciting people to murder millions of Jews. Or, in John Gormley’s case, suggesting that the PDs are Neoconservatives. The PDs are no where near being neoconservatives. Neoliberals, possibly, but neocons? No. This is just a cheap shot by Mr Gormley, who seems to care little about intelligent debate.

Of course, if Mr Gormley wants to point out a speech where the PDs have talked about truly neocon ideas like using the army to overthrow corrupt foreign regimes, installing democracy, and having some sort of “noble myth”—can be but does not have to be religion—to unite a nation, he can add it to the comments below.

But I guess, in today’s world, calling someone a “neocon” is the PC way of calling them a Nazi.

Maybe Mr Gormley could win Richard’s Eddie Holt Award for egregious abuse of the term “neoconservative”. He gets my vote.

Im surprised a busy man like john gormley would have the time to waste talking about the pds

theyve finally thrown in the towel i see
they understand Bertie Ahern taking a donation loan or whatever it was
so no problem – thats him off the hook

That leaves the shinners off the hook too – they wont have to listen to the pds lecturing them any more about funny money and where they might have got it – see its ok now to have funny money

you could see it coming couldnt you – mc dowell would have held the record for having the top job for the shortest amount of time
that would concentrate the mind right enough
its enough to make you forget your principles – crisis over

In fairness there is a differance between robbing millions from a bank and taking money from Friends. But you right it does the PD’s no favours in their “watching Fianna Fail thing”.

I think he probably means it as “neo-Thatcherite” rather than “Cheneyite”, but I agree it’s a bad choice of words.
