Is there Irish for Principles?

Pat Rabbitte said on Questions and Answers that he wants to get into to government at any cost. Emm, looks like it is not just the Greens that are Machiavellian. This seems to be indicative of the whole Irish political system where power is more important then policy. What are we actually voting for? So the question is do we have any space for principles in this country? Why do we not have people standing by what they believe and not being a bunch of Groucho Marx’s and saying “Those are my principles. If you don’t like them I have others”?
