Bertie might well be happy if SF votes secured him election as Taoiseach but then what? Could he depend on SF to get legislation through -- or would it back to the country a few months later?

[...] One of the most bizarre partnerships in modern Ireland was the main topic of discussion for bloggers this week; we’re not talking about potential Government coalitions or the fact that some Orangemen plan to vote for the SDLP, it was something altogether more important than that.
Logically, I think that any talk of a FF-SF govt. is naieve, although I think that a lot of FF would try it if they thought that they could get away with it.

I could see SF votes propping up a FF govt though under Bertie Ahern. In balance though, I think that the media and other political parties will be in full swing against SF coming upto the election, mar ba ghnáth, that words will be said that will make any thought of SF and power obsolete after the election.

Then again, I will never underestimate Bertie Aherns thirst for power.
