Just listening to morning Ireland there talking about the French heat wave. One line struck me. The guy talked about the terrible images of old people in the corridors of hospitals. Terrible image in France, Saturday in Ireland.

Dell in limerick is Dells must efficient plant in the world. It is also the lifeblood of Limerick with 3000 employed. Six out of every 100 workers in the Limerick, Clare and west Tipperary region relies either directly or indirectly on Dell for their jobs. That is a significant number. If this factory was lost [...]

In today’s Sunday Times, Bertie Ahern floats the idea of having the next election in early July 2007. If we are to take him at his word (and why wouldn’t we), this is probably designed at boring voters to apathy and to wear the opposition out with a never ending election. I am sure that [...]

Bar stool political commentators are the worst. If Irish people are said to be politically aware, it must be stated too that we’re probably the least likely of races to act upon our misgivings about the government of the day.
Very Brady is made of different stuff however. In true “down with this sort of thing” fashion, she religiously encamped outside Peter Stringfellows lapdancing club every weekend protesting against what she saw as the sexual objectification of women. Ultimately, suits and men with money were driven from Parnell Street in shame.

Apart from the startling figure of 400,000 foreign born residents, the preliminary census estimates released in the Republic yesterday could have some startling implications for the next general election, with constituencies in West Dublin and Meath growing exponentially, and rural constituencies falling.

So it’s Dublin West. We noted a while back that the Census results had the potential for a tricky constitutional problem: that a constituency might have grown too quickly to maintain its constitutional minimum of 1 TD per 30,000 voters. And it’s happened.

Great to see the politicians will not lose the opportunity to make an ass of themselves for the good of themselves Charity. The Charity Your a Star Political line-up is Billy Kelleher TD (FF), Senator Frank Feighan (FG), Dan Boyle TD (Greens) and Senator Michael McCarthy (Labour). The words “PR stunt” springs to mind. Is [...]

While other nations hire ferries, move aircraft carriers and warships, or wait to see how the situation in the Middle East develops the Irish government did something amazing. They hired a couple of buses and drove the Irish citizens trapped in the Lebanon out of the country.

There are now four essential ingredients to a professionally managed political campaign: political polls, data processing, imagery and money. The polls discover what the voter already believes, and data processing interprets and analyses the depth of voters’ attitudes. After that, an image of the candidate is tailored to meet the voters’ demands and desires, and [...]
