Margin of error

Read more about: Uncategorized     Print This Post

As El Matador has written, the PD’s have fallen to a new low in the polls with just 2% of first preferences. Now to me that is a rather significant number because, and I may be wrong here, I always assumed that the margin of error in most polls was at least 2%. If thats the case then in theory the PD’s may actually be so unpopular that even their own TDs would vote for someone else.

Asking the dumb question as usual but isn’t there a threshold below which the pollsters don’t include a party. After all, say the SP or even the WP might get 1% in a poll but they are not included separately. I would actually like to see the independents and others broken down even more. Part of my desire would be to see the look on McDowell and Joe Higgins’ faces if the SP got 2% as well!

The margin of error on the RedC poll is 3%, if memory serves me correctly.
