McDaid under pressure to stand again?

Despite the several valedictories written on behalf of disgraced former minister Jim McDaid it looks like he is facing pressure to stand again for Fianna Fail in the Donegal North East. Concern within the party arises over the possibilty of Independent Fianna Fail TD Niall Blaney joining the party in advance of the election. This it is argued would leave the party in Letterkenny vulnerable to a challenge from Sinn Fein or Fine Gael. McDaid:

Until I came in 1989, Letterkenny had no TD for over 50 years, and I don’t think the people of Letterkenny want to be without a TD again – it’s a major industrial and progressive town. If you take the geography of the situation, Cecilia Keaveney is in Moville, Padraig MacLochlainn is in Buncrana, Joe McHugh is in Carrigart and Niall Blaney is in Fanad, Letterkenny is left wide open. Monaghan had a TD in the north and a TD in the south. It was then left wide open and has been ravaged by Sinn Fein ever since.

Damein Blake suggested that in the north location is everything and if FF make the mistake of not realising this then a seat in Letterkenny is for the taking from under their own noses. It looks possible that SF or FG would take a spare letterkenny seat so it seems unlikely that FF will leave it without a strong enough candidtate
