Grass root / Citizen media in Irish politics

I can remember being amazed by the whole use of citizen media in the US in the Senate race between Thune and Daschle (see blog entry) where the DashcleVThune online community of bloggers were able to set the tone of the election as part of Thune’s wider strategy. It was part of a wider development of electronic activism in politics with political games and online cartoons such as those from the Langerland crew. I’m beginning to see that happening here in Ireland with this blog but also with blogs like thelimerick blog as well as fora like politics.ie.

I never thought I’d see the day it would happen with Irish politicans themselves (see blog entry) but it turns out that the Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Diarmuid Scully has added a piece on Limerick and Quality of Life to the thelimerick blog. He also seems to have a podcast.

My open question is “Has electronic activism reached the normal voter in Ireland or are we still in the early adopter phase ?
