The age of consent, should vote

Here is a novelty: if the decision on the age of consent should be lowered, why not let the citizens most affected by the decision be allowed to vote on the subject? Why not lower the voting age to 16 and put the decision up to the people. That would let the TDs and Dail off the hook for any hard decisions that might affect their reign.

Passing the buck to the church, given their way, everyone will not permitted sex, at all! What’s good for priests, is good enough for the general population. How normal is that, no thanks.

The reality of the situation is, some 16 year olds are criminals, having nasty sex, in defiance of the law. The real issue is really education, no one in this puritanical country wants to educate the kids about sex, sexual health, and the emotional issues associated with sex.

Time for this culture to grow up and find out where babies really come from.

If someone is old enough to pay tax to a government, they should at least be afforded the opportunity to determine who is in government. No taxation without representation as they used to say.

I’m more concerned about age equalisation than what age it is. If that means reducing the age for gay sex to 17 to equalise with heteros first, so be it.

In Canada I think most people are on board with the proposal to set the age at 16 with a close-in-age exception… then again the existing AofC is 14.

Just make sure whatever the law ends up as, it doesn’t end up like that case in Utah where they are charging a 12 and 13 year with mutual sexual assault.

The point of the post was to lower the voting age to match the age of consent.

This is very sensible & well argued. Whether one is a homosexual is irrelevant.

    Age is the Issue.

okay SOS I’ll bite - we don’t restrict or extend the franchise based on what the subject is. We legislate for minors all the time. Why should this be different?
